How The Network Works!

Our Business Network is based on the principles of Advocate Marketing.
Based on the common-sense principle that "people like to buy from people they know, like and trust", the Network creates opportunities for you to dramatically increase the network of advocates (supporters) of your business.

In view of this you should not try to 'sell' to everyone you meet at a Network meeting but see the Network as a means of introduction to every other person's network of family, friends and colleagues.

We invite you to come along, relax, have fun and give freely of your knowledge and practical experience in support of other local business people in the confidence that your generousity will be amply rewarded.

In addition, at each meeting there is a 45-minute formal coaching session
to help you move forward in your business. See below for more details.

1. Attendance
Attendance is open to all local small business owners and local entrepreneurs who are seeking to find new potential customers.

Attendance is especially suitable for:

(i) people who run businesses from home and who do not have a shop-front presence, and
(ii) who offer products or services that are of general interest and not tightly targeted to a specific niche. e.g. accountants, image consultants and web-designers and not off-shore oil drilling services!

2. Monthly Meetings
We organise regular monthly meetings for each local area e.g. Crystal Palace, Dulwich etc.

Meetings are held in the evenings between 6.15pm and 8.30pm on regular days e.g. the 2nd Tuesday of every month.

The formal part of the evening runs between 7.00pm- 7.45pm. Attendees will be divided into small groups and each person will get an opportunity to:

(i) Present themselves and their business to the other members of the group, and

(ii) Present a major challenge/problem facing them and ask the other members for advice.

(iii) Describe the type of customers they are looking for and ask others for referrals.

3. Fees
Each person is entitled to attend 2 meetings for free.

We have no membership fees but after you have attended your 2 free meetings there will be a small charge of £7 per meeting to help us cover our costs.

4. Attendance of All Groups
You can attend as many or as few meetings as you wish.

You can also attend meetings of Ethos Networks in other areas and so dramatically increase your promotional reach.

5. Free Website Listing
Once you start attending meetings regularly you will get 2 free listings of your business details on this website.

One entry will be on your local Network's page and one will be on a Directory of 'Members' of all our local groups.

Your entry can detail your Name, Company Name, your Contact Details plus contain a link to your website (if you have one). In this way other Network 'Members' can easily make contact with you or if they wish to refer someone to you.

In addition, we encourage 'Member's' to use and recommend to others other 'Member's' services.

6. Guests
You are welcome to bring along as many guests as you like for free, but please do get them to email us to pre-register so that we can add them to the Attendance List for each meeting.

7. Hosting
At each meeting, friendly Network staff will be on hand to greet you and introduce you to other attendees.

We will also organise a simple but adult (i.e. non-embarrassing) way to get you to meet lots of new people. In view of this you should spend time working out a simple, eloquent introduction to yourself and your services (your "30-Second Elevator Speech") as you will get lots of opportunities to practice and refine it!

8. How To Make The Most Of The Network

(i) Attend meetings on a regular basis.
(ii) Make a point of meeting lots of new people. If you attend with a friend, be sure to split up otherwise you will spend your time just talking to each other!
(iii) If you are a bit shy, let the Ethos staff know and they will make a point of introducing you to lots of relevant people.
(iv) Take lots of business cards with you.
(v) Practise and polish up, in advance, your '30-Second Elevator' speech, - basically a clear, concise and interesting introduction to yourself and your business.
(vi) Don't leave until you have business cards from at least 3 new people who you find interesting.
(vii) Get a list of attendees so that you can follow up anyone who you didn't get a chance to meet in person.
(viii) Give generously of your knowledge and practical experience and you will soon find people being drawn towards you.

From this you will see how a couple of hours and a fee of just £5 a month could be the most effective way to grow your business.
